Q and A with Mrs. Collyer
What do you love most about Teaching?
I became a teacher because I love to learn. I wanted to do my part to create a better world. I wanted to support communities that did not have the same opportunities I have had. I wanted to serve students that wanted "good teachers". The students I meet in my classroom are easily the best part of being a teacher, I think of them as my children. I believe in a "whole" education where we discuss History, yes, but we also explore art, we discuss strategies for dealing with challenges in life, the importance of honesty and integrity in our world. I love working with my students most, I love sharing stories and helping them understand the story that they are a part of. I love watching them grow up and I will witness my first "graduating" class next year, in Newcomb, I am really excited for that!

Is there a group of students or a class period that you are particularly proud of and would like to Honor?
I really do love and appreciate all of my students, but I would love to take this opportunity to honor my "first year" students. These students stretched me into the teacher I am today, they allowed me to make mistakes and learn from them. This group of students are Juniors at Newcomb High right now, and they gave me so much insight, appreciation--they helped me to know that I was in the right place. Thank you! I am grateful to you!
