We would like to honor Mrs. Linda Smiley from Newcomb Elementary!
Mrs. Smiley is very compassionate and dedicated Kindergarten teacher. She uses her data on a daily basis to ensure that her students are getting the specific skills mastered. She is constant communication with her other grade level teacher, EA and Foster Grandmother. Her students are expected to meet her expectations and they respect her, just as she respects them. Thank you Mrs. Smiley for all that you do for your students!
Q and A with Mrs. Smiley
What do you love most about Teaching?
I know how important it is for my students to have a good grasp on basic phonic skills and sight word knowledge so that they will be successful in first grade. If kindergarten is the foundation for their education, I believe that a positive experience will encourage a love for learning. I love it when my students have their light bulb moments. When an idea is connected with understanding. their little faces lights up and gleam with a smile. Its so awesome to witness a child reading for the first time and truly reading. Yet another milestone witnessed in the life of a young child. My two helpers Mrs. John, EA and Mrs. Bylilly, FGP are wonderful and makes my job easier with their expertise. We are a team.
Is there a group of students or a class period that you are particularly proud of and would like to Honor?
I would like to honor every single student in my class. They all have made progress to some measures in IXL, ESGI and I-Station and I applaud them all. They each have an aspiration to rise above their previous goal. I'm very proud of every single one of them. My job goes beyond just teaching the material. It’s about making a personal connection with the students. My job goes beyond just teaching the material. It’s about making a personal connection with the students.
