Honor Our Teachers would like to recognize Mrs. Mary Whipple at Judy Nelson Elementary School!

Mrs. Whipple has been in education for over 17 years and currently teaches 6th grade.  Last year, Mrs. Whipple decided to start a Running Club for the students of Judy Nelson Elementary School. Students meet two or three times per week, and they run in all kinds of weather. Currently, students are accumulating miles to become members of the 100 mile club! Mrs. Whipple is also an amazing 6th grade teacher!
Q & A with Mrs. Whipple
What do you like most about teaching?
Learning has always been one of my favorite things! I particularly enjoy associating with young people, so teaching has been a perfect fit for me. Every day presents a unique set of challenges and a unique set of solutions, so the job is never boring. In addition to working with the youth of our community, I have some awesome co-workers that are continually teaching me and helping me to improve my craft.

Is there a group of students or a class period that you are particularly proud of and would like to Honor?
I have enjoyed being the JNE Running Club sponsor for the last two years. This has allowed me to teach students that are not in the grade level where I teach. Three days each week I get to run with 3rd-6th graders and model life skills that go beyond classroom learning. We've learned to challenge ourselves and accomplish hard things. We've learned to be good sports and celebrate and encourage others accomplishments as well as our own. And, we've learned the about the mental and physical health benefits that come with being active. A win-win situation for everyone who participates.

Thank You Mrs. Whipple for all that you do!
